the property |
| For over a century, the “Domaine de la Paleine” has been producing wines from Saumur at the Puy Notre Dame. 3 years ago, Laurence and Marc Vincent, in love with the Loire valley, took over the running of the estate. Patrick Nivelleau, the wine master, controls the production of the different wines. The wine cellars run for one mile underneath the “Tuffeau”, an easy-draining limestone soil. Here, at the perfect temperature of 12°, lie more than 100 000 bottles of vintage wines of various Saumur appellations ! |

The terroir |
| Chenin and Cabernet Franc vines take up the majority of the 32 hectares of the vineyard. Grass is left to grow between them to encourage the vine to go deep in the chalky soil. This exceptional chalky soil works as a sponge, retaining surplus water in the winter, which the vine feeds itself on as its fruit grows. This gives the wines of “Domaine de la Paleine” their unique character: full bodied, yet subtle and fruity. The use of chemicals is kept very limited in order to retain a natural product ! |
